Tourism and Marketing Assistant- Summer Student

Under the direct supervision of the Tourism Officer, the Tourism and Marketing Summer Student will assist with marketing and communications activities that support Elgin County Tourism’s efforts to promote local attractions, events, and services. This role includes a variety of tasks, such as digital content creation, visitor engagement, and requires coverage at the Port Stanley Visitor Centre two days a week.

A major part of the Tourism Assistant experience includes operating as a goodwill ambassador for Elgin County. In many cases the Tourism and Marketing Summer Student will be a tourist’s first exposure to the area. Visitors from around the world have signed our guest books and experienced our famous tourist attractions. This is an exciting, customer-oriented position that requires an outgoing and self-motivated personality.

Hours of Work: Approx. 35 hours per week – hours will vary including weekends

Effective: May 15, 2025 to August 31, 2025 (**Subject to Grant Approval**)

Salary:  Minimum Wage

Qualifications:

  • Must have own transportation with a valid class ‘G’ driver’s license and clear Ontario Driver Abstract.
  • Currently enrolled or a recent graduate of post-secondary education (Business, Marketing, Tourism, or a related field preferred).
  • Experience in computer software including word processing and excel spreadsheets. (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite and CRM systems, Canva, social media platforms and website updates).
  • Pleasant, outgoing with a basic knowledge of Elgin County.
  • Good time management, interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in customer service or public engagement is an asset.
  • Ability to work well unsupervised.
  • Previous experience in administrative support or customer service roles.
