I’ve been in the tourism industry for about 10 years. But I didn’t realize it at first. I had started a business, and many of my customers were travelers. But I had no idea that what I was doing connected to this bigger, more exciting career path.

That all changed when a friend sent me a job posting for a marketing role at a DMO. "What's a DMO?" I thought.

That one job post sent me down a rabbit hole of discovery. I learned all I could about how destinations are marketed, how travel experiences are shaped, and how many different careers exist in this world. I started learning everything I could about the sector. And over the years, I’ve met hundreds of people who had similar stories—people who stumbled into tourism and fell in love with it.

Now, I run a tourism business and work as a consultant. But there are so many paths I could have taken: guiding tours, travel planning, policy, storytelling, conservation, and more.
