Job Description: Museum Assistant

Scope: The Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is adding three seasonal Museum Assistant positions to the team, two full-time and one part-time. These positions are primarily responsible for creating an enjoyable and rewarding museum experience for all visitors. The Museum Assistants will open and close the museum, greet visitors, give tours, help plan and assist at museum events, and assist in supervised collections projects. The right player will have relevant customer service experience, computer proficiency, exceptional organizational and communication skills, and a passion for both baseball and community service.

Reporting to: Care of Collections and Public Engagement Supervisor

Responsibilities:

  • Greet visitors and provide orientation to the museum as well as museum tours
  • Assist with daily opening and closing procedures
  • Answer phone calls and respond to tourism inquiries
  • Sell merchandise and take admission fees from visitors
  • Contribute to the organizing, planning, and set-up of museum special events
  • Work on specified projects, under supervision, such as care of collections, historic research, and digitization
  • Monitor museum environmental conditions
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with others
  • Cash handling and report writing experience would be an asset
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, and organizational skills
  • Computer proficiency, including with spreadsheets, word processing, scanners, and projectors
  • Interest in baseball and knowledge of current game as well as history of the sport
  • Previous work experience in a museum or other relevant customer service setting preferred
  • Ability to work weekends from late April to early September

Education: Currently enrolled in high school (grade 11 and up) or post-secondary school

Terms of Employment:

  • The selected applicant must be able to meet the specific grant requirements:
  • must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible);
  • between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
  • have been a full-time high school, college, CEGEP or university student (as defined by their educational institution) in the semester preceding the work assignment; and intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the work assignment

Rate of Pay: $18.20 per hour

Contract Hours and Duration:

One Part-Time Position: 7-21 hours/week from July-August, with potential to continue until October

Two Full-Time Positions: 35 hours/week from May-August, with potential to continue part-time until October

Start date: April 29, 2025
